This week\u2019s\u00a0#<\/span>collectionwednesdays<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u00a0 is the thought-provoking carbon drawing, Twenty Twenty Vision: Australia, by Mike Singe<\/h1>\n<\/div>

\u2018\u2026the image of Australia\u2019s Golden Wattle (Acacia pycnantha) takes up only 5% of the total surface area of the drawing, matching Australia\u2019s commitment of a 5% reduction on 2000 levels. Beyond a mere pastiche of climate change related processes these drawings question, through the use of national symbols, notions of national identity and its relationship to a countries commitment to a sustainable existence.\u2019 \u2013 Mike Singe<\/p>\n

Twenty Twenty Vision: Australia was created as a visual response to the commitment of individual nations to reduce carbon emissions. The drawing is made with the literal build-up of impure carbon (soot), from a candle which was then removed in accordance to Australia\u2019s commitments for 2020. The work featured in the \u2018half empty \/ half full\u2019 exhibition at Turner Galleries in 2017.<\/p>\n

Mike Singe was born in Perth and currently resides in Tasmania. He is a @curtinuniversity graduate who went on to receive a Master of Fine Arts at the University of Tasmania. During this time, his interest grew into the shifting behaviour and cultural responses to the climate change debate, an issue which continues to inform his practice today.<\/p>\n
