This week’s #collectionwednesdays is this superb wool rug, “Freud’s Study,” by Susan Flavell.⠀

‘The wolf on the rug swallows the carpet that sits beneath the desk on which Freud worked, swallows the ground on which he stood. The incompatible perspectives underlie shifting grounds.’ – Susan Flavell, 2015⠀

Freud’s Study was created after a residency in 2013 at the Freud Museum, London by Flavell and six other Western Australian artists. The residency resulted in an exhibition in 2015 @pica_perth titled An Internal Difficulty. ⠀

Susan Flavell is one of Western Australia’s most accomplished mid-career artists. A graduate of @curtinuniversity, over the last 25 years Flavell has developed skilful work in a range of mediums and techniques, including, casting, hand built and cast ceramics, drawing, watercolour and textiles. Flavell is perhaps best known for her use of cardboard to create fantastical and mythical forms.⠀ ⠀
“Freud’s Study,” 2014, wool rug, 245 x 185 cm. Gift of the artist through the Cultural Gifts Program 2017.⠀
